Now that the economic relief package has been passed by Congress and signed by the President, pray for wisdom and discernment, particularly for those who will decide how the funds will be distributed and allocated. Pray that their work will be guided by God and that they will help those most in need.
Pray for all who are being impacted by the current economic difficulties, asking God to help and comfort them. Pray for churches, communities and helping agencies to provide assistance to those in deepest need, that the love and compassion of God will be widely seen. Pray also for all Americans to make appropriate sacrifices and to seek to live within their means rather than borrowing and relying on credit.
Give thanks for last night’s successful debate in which voters were able to directly question the candidates. Pray for voters as they consider both tickets, that they will engage the issues and vote wisely.
Pray for the third and final presidential debate, on domestic and economic policy, slated for October 15 at Hofstra University. Senators McCain and Obama will sit at a table with moderator Bob Schieffer and will answer and rebut his questions. Pray for each man’s preparation and for the Spirit of Truth to prevail throughout the remainder of these campaigns.
Pray for World Bank President Robert Zoellick as he hosts leaders of the Monetary Fund World Bank for the 2008 Annual Meetings 10/10-13 in Washington, D.C. Pray for God’s presence and wisdom to be with all these leaders as they consider the great concerns of the world economy.
Pray for President Bush as he welcomes to the White House President Ivan Gasparovic of the Slovak Republic October 9. As our NATO ally, the Slovak Republic is contributing to Alliance efforts to help the people of Afghanistan secure their freedom and prosperity. The two leaders will discuss these and other global and regional issues.
As a new effort to bring legal action to eliminate the National Day of Prayer has arisen, pray that this attack will not succeed, giving thanks for the wise provision made for our religious liberties by our Founding Fathers. Pray for a spirit of wisdom and understanding regarding those liberties all across America.
As Pope Benedict XVI has launched a week-long “In the Beginning” Bible reading marathon on Italian television, pray for a hunger and thirst for the Scriptures to spread across our nation and to all peoples of the world. Give thanks for the truth of the Scriptures and for their living and active influence in daily life for all Christians.
Give thanks for the dedication and sacrifice of all members of our military as they serve around the world to protect our liberties and freedoms. Pray for their safety and for the safety of their children and spouses who sacrifice to enable their service, and pray that they’ll have all they need during their season of sacrifice.
When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow. —The Bible, Isaiah 1:15-17 (NIV)
But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. —The Bible, II Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV)

A nation that loses its moral compass and its spiritual courage will grow old before its time. Even if we gain all of the material and social and political objectives and yet lose our souls, Jesus said, “What profit would it be?” To God, one soul is worth more than the whole world…We affirm that we are indeed a free and independent people, but in a far more profound sense, we are people that are totally dependent upon Almighty God. —Franklin Graham, January 21, 2001

The second presidential debate took place Tuesday night at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Using the town hall style format, moderator and veteran newscaster Tom Brokaw worked hard to keep Senator McCain and Senator Obama on track with the schedule. The close and intimate setting enabled the candidates to get close to questioners who were seated on the stage.
No new plans or engaging sound bites were launched in this week’s debate; both candidates were restrained and seemed concerned that they not attack their opponent too viciously. While there was no clear winner, neither candidate stood out enough to clearly advance his cause either.

With the recent storms in the Atlantic Ocean, we gain a deeper appreciation for the early explorers who first came to these shores. Using ships considered tiny by today's seafaring standards, they braved tremendous threats to reach the goal of exploring the New World.
Even before the arrival of settlers at Jamestown or Plymouth, a bold pioneer with a passion for new lands was used by God to open the New World in 1492. Read more.

To some people, the credit crunch might sound simply like technical talk; it's a technical matter. But the people who work [here], you understand that credit is the fuel that drives economic expansion and job creation. And here's how: See, when credit runs dry in one part of our economy, there's a chain reaction. So you want to sell a desk to somebody. That person needs to borrow the money in the short term to buy the desk. And yet, because the credit has tightened, because some banks are lending, a potential customer doesn't have the money to buy your desk, and that affects you. So a lot of the talk that you're hearing about credit crunches applies directly to your business here. It hurts your suppliers. It affects the entire economy.
Similar stories play out not only in businesses like [this one], but all across the economy. And if the credit crunch were allowed to worsen, the outcome would become much worse, with widespread job losses, and this country could be in possibly a painful and deep recession. So I decided to do something about it. —George W. Bush, October 7, 2009

Pastors and chaplains play a key role in the prayer efforts of our nation both by setting an example and by promoting prayer among those with whom they minister. They value our prayers and support in return as they serve God at home and around the world.
Show appreciation to your pastors or chaplains and their families this month. Simple acts of appreciation including cards, emails, gift certificates for dinner, or an offer of lunch or a free carwash will all be appreciated. Above all, you can assure your pastor of your prayers on his or her behalf. Send our special eCard to your pastor or chaplain today.
This U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal fires his MK-11 sniper rifle from a Sea Knight helicopter while flying over the Gulf of Aden. Ian is back home in the US. Thank the Lord for his presence. He is working full-time and attending school part-time. His heart is still with those who are still deployed; he still desires prayer for all active soldiers and their families.
First, thank you for your prayers and I hope you will continue to pray for my son. Joe was recently sent home as un-deployable due to terrible headaches for which medications have not been able to touch. He has seen doctors and has had tests done that don't seem to have answers for what exactly causes them. Now he fights the depression that is caused by having to come home and not be a part of the reason he joined the TX Army National Guard. As a Mother there is some relief that he is out of harm’s way, but at the same time, I want him to be in the place he feels he needs to be at this time. I'm sure that God has a plan for him and he and his family have to be patient. With your prayers I am hoping for some answers and some relief for him so he can be in the place that God wants him to be. Again, thank you for your continued prayers.
Barry is back home and says he is doing great. Please keep his mental health in your prayers as I am sure there are things that he will never forget from his time overseas.
Michael B is leaving for Iraq within the next couple of weeks. Please keep him and all of our troops in your prayers.
We're down to the last month in Iraq (hopefully ever). Thankfully things have been relatively quiet. I haven't heard reports of IEDs or suicide bombers for the last month or so taking lives or limbs. I'm praying for safety up until they leave and as they travel several days through several countries to return home. Brett is working on applying for college in anticipation of finishing his military service in March. He will also have a divorce in the works when he comes home. His wife deserted him after his first tour and plans to do the paperwork after he gets home this time. Thanks for your prayers for Brett.
